LIFESTYLE ALIGNMENT – BESPOKE ACQUISITION DEALS
Realistic expectations
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO ACQUIRE A BUSINESS IN WA?
Acquiring a business is rarely a quick transaction. In Western Australia, most purchasers should realistically allow 9 to 12 months from initial search to final settlement. That timeframe includes clarifying your acquisition criteria, reviewing Information Memorandums, meeting brokers or owners, negotiating terms, undertaking financial and legal due diligence, securing finance, and completing settlement. Each phase requires disciplined analysis and careful decision-making. Rushing any one stage increases risk — particularly in areas such as cash flow validation, tax structuring, employee entitlements, lease assignments, and transition planning.
The search phase alone can take 2 to 6 months, depending on how clear you are about your investment criteria and how active the market is in your sector. Once an offer is accepted (often accompanied by a 5–10% deposit), due diligence and negotiation commonly take another 1 to 3 months, followed by finance approval and legal documentation. Complex transactions — franchised operations, multi-site businesses, regulated industries, or vendor-finance structures — may extend beyond a year.
Occasionally, exceptional circumstances allow a transaction to complete in as little as three to six weeks — typically where the buyer and seller already know each other, financial records are clean and transparent, funding is readily available, and there are no regulatory complications. However, these cases are the exception rather than the rule. A well-managed acquisition process is deliberate, structured, and values-led — designed not simply to “buy a business,” but to secure the right business, on the right terms, at the right stage of your life and career.

Buying A Business Is More Than A Dollar Price
We also work with buyers and investors who:
- Want to acquire values-aligned businesses that can flourish, not just build value extraction deals.
- Prefer staged or flexible transitions, not all business sellers are interested in a lump sum upfront on day 1.
- Are interested in regional or community-based enterprises. Regional businesses can often be a major employer, we work with communities to keep local jobs in the region. Including cooperative and employee buy-back deals.
- Can tell a lot about a business from it’s financial history but culture and values of the existing team and the incoming purchaser need to be in alignment if the purchaser wants to secure all the IP and build a sustainable business into the long term… we look beyond the financials.
Our role is to support clarity, alignment, and sustainability on both sides of the transaction.
We work alongside accountants, advisors, and legal professionals, helping you think clearly before decisions become urgent.
